Twin Flames Ensemble Concert Series
Journey ΙII from Northern Greece to the Balkans
Twin Flames Ensemble invites musicians with traditional Balkan, Baroque and Eastern
Modal music backgrounds to enrich the Greek repertoire with the sounds and songs of their
own traditions, presented over the course of three concerts. The project celebrates the belief
that tradition is a living organism that grows and evolves based on cultural dialogue, which
empowers the idea of community and encourages a sense of togetherness.
Maroulita de Kol and Penelope Gkika (aka Twin Flames) have been working together for a
decade, researching and reinterpreting the stories and musical material of Greek traditional
music. In addition to their duo project, they have founded three Berlin-based bands that are
involved in similar sonic research - Reverse Mode, Arcangel Trio and Farmagia, all of which
actively perform around Europe.
